Irish suffer severe spring injuries

08:20 AM ET 03.26 | Brian Kelly isn't scheduled to talk to the media until after this upcoming weekend, at which point some light might be shed on the injury front. The Irish look to have suffered two injuries after Saturday's first practice in pads. Multiple sources tell me that defensive end Chase Hounshell has suffered another shoulder injury. One source indicates that it's another torn labrum for Hounshell, a really tough break for the rising junior defensive end. ... Speaking of injury set backs, it appears running back Amir Carlisle had one as well, with a broken collarbone the result of a Saturday collision. That's another tough break for the diminutive running back, who Brian Kelly openly complimented after the weekend's practice.

I don't know about Hounshell but a broken collar bone for Carlisle will be healed long before the season starts. His teammate Devaris Daniels broke his in mid November and played in the NCG on January 7th.

Yep, he'll be back, bones heal quickly - but for the other guy with the torn labrum (soft tissue injury), sometimes those can linger and are susceptible to re-injury. But with the right rehab he should be OK too.

Kelly's belly is looking a little past fit too. Trying to fit into Weis's chair?

Kelly would have to add quite a few area codes to slither out of the Hutt's prolific shadow.

Neither is as serious as UofM's LB Jake Ryan. Their best defensive player recently tore his ACL and is likely out for the season.

Great information on players we've never heard of. Hopefully ND can survive on the cold benches this season without these guys keeping them warm.
