Denny Hamlin to miss six weeks

11:03 AM ET 03.27 | Joe Gibbs Racing has confirmed Denny Hamlin will miss at least the next six races behind the wheel of their No. 11 Toyota. Dr. Jerry Petty will make the final decision on when Hamlin can return. The good news in all of this bad news is that Hamlin will not require surgery. Any hopes of Hamlin making the Chase for the Sprint Cup are now going to have to rely on making the wildcard by winnings races. Hamlin will miss some tracks he has success at, including Martinsville, Texas, Kansas, Richmond and Talladega. However, there are tracks such as Darlington, Charlotte and a few others that will come up after that give him a solid chance. If his injuries heal in time and with the approval of Dr. Jerry Petty, Hamlin could return to the track at Darlington Raceway.

Those 6 weeks will crawl by for Hamlin and he'll have time to stew about what happened.. then again.. if Stewart hasn't calmed down any.. there might not be anything left of Logano for Hamlin to get back at.. Logano better start hitting the weight room.. or hire his pit-crew as 24 hour security

Maybe he could hire Jimmy Spencer.

I thought 6 weeks meant 5 races as they are idle this weekend?

Man their beating this story to death, move on, theres other news out there.

March 28, 2013  01:38 PM ET

FN posted this story way too late.....again.....it's all been said and done.......but on a positive note, when was the last time Denny boy got so much attention.....people, whethor they're fans or not, will be remembering this incident for a long time.

This article implies he could still make it as a wild card.

Doesn't the amount of races you started have something to do with if you qualify or not?

What if Logano has 2 wins (a stretch but for the sake of argument lets say if did) and he started all 26 races leading to the chase, and Hamlin has 2 wins but only started 18 races.
Who gets the wild card spot?

He probably runs faster than Logano when confronted

An inordinate desire to stop at every gas station and run to the mens room, he sees the Sunoco Racing Fuel Sign and .............

On a serious note, I thought it would be Vickers for sure. You never know what goes through Mr. Gibbs head.

whats big and no one is talking about it much is what it does to the championship. To me, jr brad k johnson , kyle busch and other strong contenders just got a bigger chance at championship. Denny was going to be a big threat this year, he may have won it. Logano made a chicken shi- move. He was gonna get beat, and he wrecked him, but he was losing control before he wrecked him. Just driving crazy. Also I must ask, how the hell does tony stewart not get anything for his mouth after the race? I mean whats the deal? I remember a few years ago he went below the yellow line at dega and took the win away from smith, and nascar did nothing. Then other occasions, now this. I mean nascar is so full of bs. So inconsistant. I hate seeing it turn to this.

Mikey wanted Vickers all along......but sponsorship for a full time ride for Vickers was an issue.

could it be because Sadler is inconsistent......and he is good....but not great......MM can run good and run great, so better potential results there.

QUOTE(#16):

Sadler has had plenty of chances and all he has done with them is show the world that he isn't up to the challenge of driving with the big dogs on Sunday.3 wins in 430 races is pretty weak and the last win was 9 years ago, that's even weaker.I imagine that Joe Gibbs figures MM will get him more points that Sadler would have and I have a hard time disagreeing.

agree
