07:54 AM ET 03.28 | Considering he didn't throw at the combine, USC quarterback Matt Barkley had a lot riding on his pro day, where he completed 56 of 62 passes. Per USA Today, two were considered to be drops. The others, then, represented misfires by a quarterback who was playing catch with his college teammates. From what I saw of the workout, several of the completions came in high, with the receiver [having] to extend his arms. ... On at least two of the deep routes, the receiver had to slow down and wait for the ball. "I thought it was a good day," Barkley said, via USA Today. "You always want to be perfect, especially on a day like this." Barkley wasn't perfect. And that may not be good enough to put him into the top 10.

With the same class ring as Matt Leinart, John David Booty and Mark Sanchez.

Who ever said he was top 10 draft material to begin with? He'll be fortunate to go anywhere in the 1st round.

His agent.

to slip out of the top ten, first he had to have been in it. I never had him in it.

USC quarterbacks....buyer beware!

March 28, 2013  09:59 AM ET

Barkley will go late 1st round or early second!!!

I know quite a few fans don't like Carson Palmer, but damn, the guy has played in the NFL for 9 years and can't be all that bad!!!!!

March 28, 2013  10:02 AM ET

Some team will draft for need, not talent. After all, isn't that why they have early first-round picks to begin with?

And if you say "Well, that's not smart drafting," I'll reply "Isn't that why they have early first-round picks to begin with?"

LOL, that can be said about Texas, LSU, Bama and so many more college QBs!!!!

It is because of where he was drafted. First round/first pick. Same with Tebow, if Denver had not went stupid and the guy goes in the second or third round where he belonged, peoples perception of him changes.

Not many have had the HYPE though, I think that was his point. Heisman poster boys Palmer and Leinart immediately come to mind...squeeze in a Sanchez (all top 10 picks) in the last 10 years and you have a cluster ___ of overhyped QBs who never lived up to it...Not sure those other schools have had such an amazing run of overhypeness at QB..LOL

He'll be a Jet before you know it.

That's true, but who gives the USC QBs the hype??? The NFL scouts look at all these college QBs and rate him before the draft, so I guess you can blame the News Media and the NFL scouts, if a college QB don't make a splash in the NFL.

Well put. I know teams tend to overvalue quarterbacks but he's not a top 10 pick. Late 1st? Maybe.

Please don't wish that on us. I might have to boycott the Jets if they take another quarterback from USC. I know I shouldn't compare Barkley to Sanchez but I would get ill if the Jets took him.

Good point, but Palmer was/is an NFL starter for 9 years, Tebow is not an NFL starter, as of today!!! Take a look at some of the other QBs, that were drafted high in the first round, that never made it in the NFL, guys like Russell, Harrington and VY. I still say, that if you are a "NFL starting QB", like Palmer and Sanchez, then you are not all that bad!!!

How true. There has never really been a USC star QB.
