07:54 AM ET 03.28 | In terms of Darrius Heyward-Bey speculation, start your engines, Motown. [Heyward-Bey] left the Detroit Lions facility without a signed contract on Wednesday, but departed with a positive view of the organization. Heyward-Bey spent most of Wednesday with coach Jim Schwartz and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan before departing around 3:30 p.m. The former Oakland Raiders receiver said he had a great visit, but remains undecided about his future. ... The most appealing factor for Heyward-Bey is Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. ... None of [the seven different starting quarterbacks he's seen in Oakland] compare to Stafford. "It's very appealing," Heyward-Bey said.

I find the Lions "very appalling."

This statement is pretty much the sum of it all.

Interesting - The only real stat Stafford had better than Palmer last year was total yds (4967 vs 4081). Palmer was better in comp %age (61.1 vs 59.8), Avg yds (7.11 vs 6.83), TDs (22 vs 20), Ints (14 vs 17).

The real question is if Bey is so fast and can get open so well, then why did his stats drop in 2012 from 115 targets for 64 receptions for 975 yds, to 80 tgts for 41 recp. for 6060 yds when Palmer's passing yds went up from 2753 to 4018? I think this is the real reason he has had a lack of takers so far.

It could also be that he's asking for more than he's worth.

Huh, up until now it looked like he was headed to the Colts, who have a pretty good young QB as well. But actually, I think he would be good for the Pats - he would stretch the field the way Moss did and open up the middle for Amendola. And Brady could certainly get him the ball.

Doesn't fit the Patriots' scheme. He has a problem with route running and still drops a lot of passes.

Moss has 10 times better hands than DHB

+1. DHB won't fool any GMs into overpaying him. Owners on the other hand...

Good assessment. Someone will sign him, but he's likely unsigned because he wants more than what he is worth.

Very appealing until Suh and Fairley leave in free agency.

March 28, 2013  02:28 PM ET

Is this the NFL equivilent of beer googles???

Anybody that may sign you looks good until the season starts and you realize just how bad or messed up that team may really be.

The Jets are NOT appealing in any sense.

If I was a middling WR I'd want to go to Detroit, too. Best chance to pad stats and overinflate my value in hopes of maximizing next year's free agent deal.

DHB has never been a productive player. Not in college and not in the pros.

I'm thinking you could plop him into a high powered offense (GB, NE, NO, DEN, etc) and he would still be mediocre at best.

I think some fans expect a lot because he was drafted so high but in reality he never even deserved that lofty draft status.
