Oladipo shocks his H.S. coach with stardom

08:09 AM ET 03.28 | Ask Mike Jones, the coach at basketball powerhouse DeMatha High School, about Victor Oladipo, and he's honest. He never saw this coming. Not in a million years. Oladipo was a good high school basketball player, really flourishing as a senior on a loaded DeMatha team, but to now being labeled as an NBA lottery pick? Absurd. "I'm definitely surprised," Jones said with a laugh. "I never would have imagined he would leave Indiana early, or have the option to leave Indiana early, and become a potential lottery pick." ... Jones and his staff thought Oladipo would be what they called a "program guy." He wouldn't be a big-time player, but he'd be a nice player to have around. "I thought, 'He doesn't have skills, but he plays hard.'"

Former coach won't be getting any NBA tickets....free.

The guy's just being honest. Oladipo wasn't highly thought of coming out of high school. A lot of people didn't see this coming.

It just goes to show how watered-down the NBA has become. One good year of college = lottery pick. Never mind where he's at on the development timeline. smh.

I agree Dr. B-f-G. Been like that for years. Been some studs in that time for sure, but alot of grabs by teams based on potential alone, and so many have flamed out.

Dude gets better, film at 11.

In honor of the Big East as we know it going away, trying to come up with classic lineup for the all Big East all time team -- no Depaul, Marquette, Louisville, etc. johnny-come-latelys please. Two teams: First: Patrick Ewing - Center - Georgetown; Derrick Coleman - Forward - Syracuse; Emeka Okafor - Forward - UConn; Ray Allen - Guard - UConn; Sherman Douglas - Guard - Syracuse. Second: Alonzo Mourning - Center - Georgetown; Charles Smith - Forward - Pitt; Chris Mullin - Forward - St. John's; Allen Iverson - Guard - Georgetown; Dana Barros - Guard - Boston College.

Yeah, I know, leaving your favorite player out from Providence/Seton Hall/Villanova/Wherever. Lots of great players over three decades plus of basketball so its hard to come up with just ten, but have at it. Long list of honorable mentions might include Caron Butler, Walter Berry, Pearl Washington, Dikembe Mutumbo, John Bagley, Ronny Seikaly, etc.
