Wings ready to make an exception for DeKeyser

08:13 AM ET 03.28 | This week, it's good to be prized free-agent defenseman Danny DeKeyser. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland traveled from Phoenix to Toronto to meet with the representatives of the former Western Michigan University star. DeKeyser is expected to weigh numerous offers and make his decision by Friday. The money will be the same wherever he goes, since the 23-year-old is limited to an NHL entry-level contract (two years for a player his age). His decision will be based on opportunity, where he believes he will get a chance to play right away. Ordinarily, the Red Wings don't make promises of a roster spot and playing time to prospects. But, they might have to make an exception for DeKeyser.

Good fit.

A much needed one in Detroit ... as he would be on many teams. But, I'm still skeptical he can help much this year. It's a giant leap from College hockey to the NHL. Not sure many can manage it.

And DeKeyser could do worse.

agreed...tuff to make that jump no matter who you are....can't hurt the Wings though as far as I can see...could be good experience if they play him sparingly.

late season acquisition of a college player that nobody has ever heard of that is suddenly a can't miss bet...this has Toronto written all over it.

I think the last time Toronto signed a college guy was Bozak. He turned out alright.

Definitely wasn't Celine unless you count Clown College.

Always leery of college "stars". Anyone remember the can't miss Matt Gilroy?
