08:17 AM ET 03.29 | Well, it seems former Minnesota coach Tubby Smith won't have to wait long for new career options. Texas Tech officials have met with [Smith] about the Red Raiders' vacant head-coaching position, multiple sources told ESPN.com on Thursday. Athletic director Kirby Hocutt and chancellor Kent Hance flew to North Carolina on Wednesday evening to talk with Smith about the position, and Smith was spotted in Lubbock on Thursday evening at Texas Tech's athletic facility. It is unclear whether Smith has been offered the job or whether he would accept the position if an offer was extended. Smith, who won an NCAA title at Kentucky in 1998, was fired by Minnesota on Monday after six years at the school.

Strange as this sounds, Tubby just might be a fit for the Red Faders and Lubbock, TX...if he has the right assistants.

So is TxTech the retirement home for former B1G b'ball coaches?

I think he is a good coach. Not understanding what Minny's thing is getting rid of a coach that get's them to the dance...

Might be...but Lubbock is anything but a retirement destination...except for some raised in the Texas Panhandle. Is Knight still living there? I know I saw him on one of the flights I caught out of Lubbock a few years ago. That was back when his son was still coaching there.

One last blonde background pic b/f Tubby fades away...

From Minneapolis-St. Paul to Lubbock... Which will be greater? The cultural or environmental shock?

No reason they can't keep that pic if he land in Lubbock.

I would expect the black stallion to bring his white mare with him. ;-)

While not as many as in Dallas...there are some good-lookers out on the Caprock/Llano Estacado....

Very, very good question. If he first arrives in the spring, it will be environment...but me thinks culture shock wins.

This...and the numbers are proportionately lower because plastic surgeons in Dallas "create" some of the wealthy ugly ones into somewhat good lookers.

Remember when I moved from Dallas (at the time, the highest rate of restaurants per capita, seemed like one good one on every block) to Lake Charles (that had 5 good restaurants in the whole town).

But then you could go to your neighbors house and eat boiled crawfish or crabs almost any weekend in season.....

And the "legend" of Tubby Smith perpetuates! Without a doubt one of the most overrated coaches in college basketball. This keystone cop had Rondo and couldn't make the Final 4. I wish him upon all the teams I hate.

Losing conference record every year.

It's true. They never had a conference record better than .500 in his tenure at Minn.
