08:21 AM ET 03.29 | Matthew Barnaby, who began his 834-game NHL career with the Sabres, now has one fewer tie to Buffalo. [Barnaby] has settled his lawsuit against his ex-fiancee, reclaiming the $50,000 diamond engagement ring he had given her. Attorneys in the case said that the out-of-court settlement, agreed to last week, also saw former Miss Buffalo Amber L. Lindke, who broke off her live-in relationship with Barnaby in September, surrendering the title to Barnaby's Cadillac Escalade. In exchange, Barnaby paid Lindke $1,000, on top of a $5,000 payment he made to the 25-year-old Lockport woman when they broke up. Lindke had said she was owed money for work she did on Barnaby's website, www.mattbarnabyhockey.com.

Not that I wanna ever be on Barnaby's side, but you have to be pretty scuzzy to keep an engagement ring after a relationship ends...

Got no problem with her keeping the ring...you don't want to throw away 50K, don't offer up a 50K ring. Simple as that!

So, we are just days away from the trade deadline and we get a thread about a retired player in a dispute with his ex-finance? At least they could have put up a picture of Miss Buffalo instead of Barnaby (speaking of, I forgot he played for Chicago).

also true. but to keep it in order to go pawn it to buy yourself stuff, as if it's owed to you...scuzzy.

March 29, 2013  08:55 AM ET

then again, 50k isn't nearly enough compensation for having to put up with Barnaby...

I loved him when he played for the Pens. He was nutso.

Barnaby could've gotten it back for a lot less but, Tonya Harding and Jeff Gillooly weren't available.

Got some gentleman on here this a.m. re: keeping/giving up rights to the ring. Nice. But I do believe there are some rules to it. If she broke it off with him, I believe he is entitled to the ring back. If he broke it off, she should keep it.

I know, you all don't want to be bothered with this, but I find that it is ridiculous that considering the rules of this are quite simple this even went to Court, or all of this is even a point of discussion. :)

Barnaby has had one train wreck of a life.

He's being petty..plain and simple....why would he want a reminder of the whole thing ? He should just drop it and move on.

I don't think he wants a "reminder." He wants to turn it in for the cash, plain and simple.

So would Brian Burke AKA Miss Management.

I think you hit the nail on the head. And he can deliver it to the jeweler in his Escalade. Whew!

Ms. Manners be damed. I know the rules, but it just seems to me that unless you're a money gouging so-and-so....give the ring back.
If the breakup was on him, why qwould you want to keep it...money? revenge? codswallop
If the breakuop was on HER, well, the same reasoning

and by the way....Miss Buffalo?
Where do they have that contest?
