Feaster embarrassed himself in Iginla deal

08:24 AM ET 03.29 | Just say no? The sensible thing for Jay Feaster to say was no. As in, no, I can't go back to my ownership or my fan base with that kind of offer and sell it. As in, no, I'm not going to give Jarome Iginla away, just because he's ready to be given away. And, no, I'm not going to embarrass myself -- again -- or my organization or my team by coming away with next to nothing for one of the few iconic players and iconic people in the National Hockey League. He should have said no to Boston, before he officially said no to Boston. He should have said no to Pittsburgh, because the deal enhances Ray Shero's Penguins but brings so little to the Flames. But instead, Feaster said yes.

...just in the Iggy deal? Really? Because the O'Reilly near debacle wasn't embarrassing? Because the entirety of the past 5-6 seasons in Calagary have not been embarrassing?

Trade should have been made a few years earlier and because it wasn't, the Flames had backed themselves into a corner and had to at least get something in return.

Didn't realize how much Chiarelli and Trotz resemble one another until I saw video from the pity party...

How does Feaster have a job after this season?!

because calgarians are complacent and soft.

I'm beginning to think that all this talk about Canadians being nice is just a myth :)

the rule really only holds true through the maritimes...then you have to approach on a case by case basis!

What they meant to say is that Jay Feaster "Burked" himself.

I think we have a new phrase for the hockey threads to describe bad trades. Unfortunately, it is all too applicable to Holmgren these days.

The Bruins package was much better than the Pens offer..but what can you do when your icon chooses another destination..and that puts Shero at an advantage. Its gonna be real embarassing for Iggy tho when he gets bounced from Boston in the play-off's...very ouch fror him.

Those grapes are awful sour, eh?

I agree with the article though. They got a first round pick, which will, hopefully, be at number 32 and a couple college kids. The kids were drafted in the 3rd and 5th rounds so its not like they got a couple top prospects.

After watching the Pens last night, I'm thinking Iggy might end up on the 3rd line. Crosby's line has been read hot for a while now and Malkin, Neal and Morrow were working well together too. Maybe a line of Sutter, Cooke and Iggy.

Hee. Hee.

People need to keep in mind, that a first round pick even at 30-32 might not be so bad. Didn't we get Simon Depres around there?

Dan will try a couple different options, and he's got time to do it as long as Iggy doesn't take a month to get down here. And if the Pens' drop a couple of games working out the chemistry, so be it. Brings them back down to Earth, and makes this win streak less of a distraction. But I agree, how the hell do you break up that first line?

But it's more than they would of got had they held onto Iggy and let him walk at the end of the year for nothing in return.

Holmgrened? Nah! Burked sounds more nuanced and poetic. Feastered has some potential but that one can more easily be associated with food rather than hockey.

It'll be a lot harder now that Steckel's in Anahiem.
