03:50 PM ET 03.29 | Tampa Bay Lightning forward Martin St. Louis will not be available via trade, according to general manager Steve Yzerman on Friday morning. St. Louis has been rumored as a potential piece who could be acquired prior to next week???s deadline. However, Yzerman told Pierre LeBrun of ESPN that St. Louis is too valuable for the franchise to move. In addition to his on-ice production, St. Louis is a valued member of the team???s leadership group. Considering the team is in transition after the dismissal of head coach Guy Boucher, Yzerman views St. Louis as an important piece moving forward.

Smart move Steve, but you'll have to deny it at least 30 more times before the effing media will let it go.

I wonder if he'd trade LeCavalier if he were healthy?

True enough, and why would Steve set his new coach up to lose by trading off his best player(s). Yzerman likes to win, he even changed his own playing style for the better good.

St. Louis is old, how is he an important piece moving forward?
Picks or prospects would help the team in the future.

Here's my issue, and I think Stevie's issue: What can he realistically expect in terms of a return? Only way he can justify trading St Louis to ANYBODY is if he gets the world back. He would need grade A, can't miss prospects. And the receiving team is getting, what, 2 guaranteed years outta St Louis? It's tough to entice somebody to part with that for that return.
