Chiefs hoping QB-needy teams want to swap draft picks

04:49 PM ET 03.29 | It seems the Kansas City Chiefs aren't interested in the No. 1 pick as much as they're interested in squeezing it for all its worth: with Alex Smith in the fold, they no longer need a quarterback, but other teams who do seem willing to trade up to ensure they can nab the best quarterback available. The Chiefs are interested in an offensive or defensive lineman, of which there are several strong options worthy of top-ten picks: Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, Bjoern Werner, Barkevious Mingo, etc. But teams that do need a quarterback might be willing to move up to ensure they can get their hands on somebody.

Only works if there was a QB worth the first pick in this draft. Sorry KC, you are on the clock.

Exactly what I was going to say. There is no QB in the draft worth taking with #1 no matter how much you stretch it.

Bingo! The first pick only matters when there is a franchise level player available. There are a lot of good players this year, but nobody who can be the face of the franchise

How come us fans know this, but they don't?

Sucks to be first this year. Colts got Luck last year and Chiefs get no luck this year.

The Cheifs need a lot anyone they pick will help

In the long run, it doesn't matter. Sure they may be hoping to get the guy they want and a mid-round choice, but that's just not gonna happen. But with the rookie salary pool and contract lengths set in stone (for the most part), it doesn't matter if you take a guy #1 or anywhere else in the top ten.
