12:30 PM ET 03.30 | If nothing else, quarterback Tony Romo's contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys puts a dent in the emerging concept that the highest-paid quarterbacks are the ones who have won in the playoffs. Baltimore's Joe Flacco signed a six-year, $120 million contract with $52 million guaranteed. Romo's deal has $55 million of guaranteed money wrapped into a six-year, $108 million contract. Ringless Romo has one playoff win, but he feels that's something that will change starting in 2013. He told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Friday. "We haven't had the type of success that we have all wanted the last few years, but I do know that we are on the verge of doing that. I have been around good teams and bad teams and our team is about to take that next step with a lot of things that are taking shape around Valley Ranch. Today just further instills that and I am excited about our team and the direction we are headed. "This football team that we have is a good team and with all the people we have coming back and the things we are doing behind the scenes, it will make us a very difficult ball club to beat. I am excited that ownership and the organization believes in me to get this job done. Our goal is the Super Bowl, and I am determined and honored to be the guy in this position to help our team do that."

They're on the Verge every year - until Romo starts finding new and exciting ways to lose game.

Thank you Jerry from Giants Fans everywhere :-)

Romo's going to use some of his big bucks to buy SB tickets for the team. I hope he springs for dogs and beers as well!!!

I totally agree with Romo. The Cowboys are on the verge. Of what, I have no idea. I cut Tony a lot of slack the last couple of years but last year he was the weak link in this team. I beleive he will never take them to the SB, just doesn't have that killer instinct. Seems to always fall apart in the big games. At least now he can fall apart with his pockets full of money.

Let's not be too hasty there...

If I just signed a long term deal and 55 million of it was guaranteed I would tell the reporters also we are contenders, but Tony you are forgetting one thing, General Jerry is still in charge.

You'd think he'd want a SB trophy

Working for J.J., I don't think he can have both. At least he'll have $52M of guaranteed money.
