Gasol deal may help Nets trade

The Lakers' larcenous acquisition of Pau Gasol could help the Nets in their attempts to trade Jason Kidd. It's all highly speculative but there are Western teams that likely feel they must do something. Dallas could be in those ranks - the Mavs were Kidd's original choice. The Nets and Mavs talked recently. Nothing happened. A third team, Portland, was sought. Nothing happened. There is a very long shot scenario where the Nets and Mavs could avoid a third party with the Nets getting the expiring contract they seek. Keith Van Horn is still attached to Dallas. The Mavs could sign him for three years, guarantee one. There is an expiring deal. Yes, it would be throwing money away by the Mavs. But it could be how to get Kidd.

this trade is bull ****
believe it everyone this is rigged

whats the bet the lakers owner gave the grizzlies an under the table payment of about 10 million dollars to get the deal done

the NBA is fixed period!

February 4, 2008  08:31 AM ET

maybe kobe's mouth did more than talking this time to get A-HEAD if you know what i'm talking about.

February 4, 2008  08:43 AM ET

You better believe that Jerry West is the reason Memphis did this trade. That being the case, Memphis needs to fire their present GM.

February 4, 2008  08:51 AM ET

the bulls had 8.5 million in expiring contracts on the table ( j.smith and c.duhon) and would have traded t.thomas (no 4 pick) with 2 first round picks for gasol so why did this deal not happen?

it was lot better than the lakers but the grizzlies are broke so they took the money under the table, this deal stinks and is a disgrace!

February 4, 2008  08:56 AM ET

And you think the KG deal to Boston was a "fair" deal? I am a die hard Laker fan and if you think that Boston got Bird & the Lakers got Magic in '79 was a coincident...I have a bridge to seel you Hobroken. Please deals go down every day that the league encourages. There was a situation in Atlanta a couple of years ago, where the league forced the owners to do some things. it happens all the time, QUIT HATING!

February 4, 2008  09:23 AM ET

It's not hating, it's just pointing out that it is a shame that the NBA is turning into WWE. If it is all scripted from jump, what's the point of watching.

February 4, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Winkstrap- If you and Cheesy think the league is "Fixed," why bother watching and embarrassing yourselves with stupid comments like this? Watch Family Guy or something else you may be able to understand.

February 4, 2008  09:51 AM ET

im not saying games are fixed although there was the refs thing

i love the game but like everything money rules and cumsuckers like you drules

February 4, 2008  10:00 AM ET

If you love the game, then make an effort to understand what's happening. There is no way the Lakers would pay the luxury tax on this deal, and then kick back money under the table. are you on crack?

February 4, 2008  10:02 AM ET

I doubt that any of this will happen. But then I said the same about Gasol and I was wrong... but I'm pretty sure on this one.

February 4, 2008  12:11 PM ET

like i said b4 why would someone want a almost 40 year old...pg...yeah he'll get u 10, 10 , and 10....but they do have Devin Harris and JT

February 4, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Ya think...that...this trade would have been made...by now.

Anything can happen....just look at the Patriots.

They lost and now suck like the rest of the NFL's teams that did not win the Super Bowl.

I think Kidd stays becasue - he waited and waited,,,before he began whatever he did to make them mad or they waited too long to pull their deal handle.

You see?

February 4, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Just because the Lakers have Gasol, Bynum, Kobe and FIsher back, does not automatically put us in the NBA finals. I would love to see the Lakers take down Boston in 5 or 6 games for the title.

Whats a Pau?

Captain Sunshine | 02/04/08, 01:41 PM

Sunshine! How's Lucy?

Pau is Catalan for Paul...note the missing L. If he were from any other part of Spain he'd be named Pablo.

February 4, 2008  03:02 PM ET

The Mavericks have money to spare. A 3 year with the last 2 being an option is ideal. Kidd and Harris can share time and propel the Mavs in an extremely competitive conference.

February 4, 2008  03:10 PM ET

Kidd would not help the MAvs they have Devin Haris and any deal for Kidd would have to include him meaning they have no PG for the future
