Saints defensive end Charles Grant was involved in a violent altercation outside of a nightclub near his hometown of Colquitt, Ga., early Sunday morning that resulted in the shooting death of a pregnant woman, who was an innocent bystander. Grant, 29, was stabbed in the neck during the altercation in southwest Georgia but was not seriously injured. Grant's connection to the shooting is unknown, but no charges have been filed against him, according to Grant's attorney, Edward Tolley. Tolley said Grant was attacked by an unidentified assailant and is assisting police with the investigation involving his assault and the shooting death. No arrest has been made.

This is just another case where athletes (college and pros) are out in the wee hours of the day. Don't you know freaks come out at that time? When will they ever learn?

February 4, 2008  03:00 PM ET

Yeah. Don't go to clubs known for violence. Anyone who goes clubbing knows there are those clubs that generally end in violence, and those that don't.

Not only shoudl athletes stay in when it's that late, pregnant women should as well. Even though she was innocent bystander, RIP, she really shouldn't have been out that late and I wish she wasn't.

It was a bad decision for him to be out there. Hello.. you have money and fame, losers in clubs do not and will steal your money! Agreed when will they learn!?!?

Funny how crime follows black athletes...

Are we allowed to state the obvious or is that racist?

February 4, 2008  05:23 PM ET

I agree, athletes and pregnant women should not be out clubbing in bad areas past midnight....too many drunks and losers looking for trouble.

There must be plenty of other ways for a wealthy young man to spend his evenings.

any NFL player that isn't actually playing in the super bowl should be forced to stay at home for the event. nothing ever good happens when these guys head to the clubs.

Comment about these guys attracting the wrong element is correct. They are targets! In spite of their size, some fool will pull a gun and try and even the physical mismatch. I offer no solution to this madness, can't!

I thought stuff like this only happened to members of the Bengles. Guess not.

February 6, 2008  09:20 AM ET

Accoriding to the police, Grant was merely a bystander and an assult victim, Apparently he wasn't even drinking. The fight apparently started inside the club and then spilled outside where Grant was injured, The woman who was shot and killed was also just a bystander who was never in the club and was hit by a stray shot.

The world is getting crazier by the minute. All of you pro-gun yokels, how do you feel now? FYI the right to bear arms was written in the time when powder muskets were the norm and there was a threat of another British invasion. BAN HANDGUNS and automatci weaponry!
