08:24 AM ET 04.01 | Is Chicago ready to make a move in the West? A source confirmed to the Daily Herald on Saturday that the Blackhawks and Islanders have been talking multiplayer trade with the centerpiece of the deal being New York center Frans Nielsen. Lubomir Visnovsky was part of the discussion before the 36-year-old defenseman agreed to a two-year contract extension on Friday worth $9.5 million. According to the source, the Hawks are seeking help on defense because they are nervous about going into the playoffs with Johnny Oduya as their fourth defenseman. ... The Hawks may be shifting their attention to Islanders defenseman Mark Streit, a power-play specialist who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

off topic...but love how Visnovsky fought to stay in the KHL, because apparanlty it's so much better over there. Then when he was pushed to come back to the NHL he was quite vocal about not wanting to be anIslander.

Now that the Isles have decided to show hima bit of money suddenly all his principles get thrown out the window.

Said it before, saying it again...they should let this bum go rot in the KHL.

Streit would be a huge pickup for the hawks...the guy is good on the point

Streit maybe, but not Frans. From the rumors I read, the 2 guys the Hawks are willing to part with aren't that good. Morin missed 9 months with post concussion symptoms and Olsen blows. The Isles could do much better if hey want to trade these guys. Also Boston as asked about Streit as well so maybe the Isles can make out with a bidding war?

Hawks have two needs, a 2nd line defenseman (although I'd argue to move Hjarmalson to the 3rd line) and a top PK faceoff C. Streit would be a great pickup with the Islanders getting a talented young forward which the Hawks have.

Streit would be a great pickup for Chicago. And heck they probably woulda scored 10 on Detroit if they had him yesterday.

Detroit's gotta be weary of the Jackets sneaking up on them for 7th place and forcing them to get manhandled by Chicago in the first round.

Sob....

I heard Frans was off the table as well.

They are trying to signe Streit to an extension, but I think if the terms and numbers are off, it might be best to deal him for a prospect or 1st rounder (I would think he's worth that). As good as he is, seeing him go would guarantee Tavares the Captaincy.

He's kept quiet, played hard and been effective. Tough to complain about him at this point.

It was more like 'skate meets arse' yesterday. And today, all the Wings players are lining up at the Emergency Room to get skates extracted from their rear ends.

I cannot believe that the Monster is still in the NHL. He's easily the worst in the league.
