07:11 PM ET 04.01 | It was already known that Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney would not be taking the field on Opening Day, but now the Cubs have gone a step further and placed Barney on the disabled list because of a deep cut to his left knee. The 27-year-old Golden Glove winner suffered the cut over the weekend while he was chasing down a foul ball. Brent Lillibridge will take his spot in the infield while Barney recovers. Last season, Barney put together an impressive 141-game errorless streak while playing in 156 games.

They should place Marmol on the DL before Wilbon (and the rest of Chicago) loses his marbles

It's just a good thing they're sitting atop the division with an insurmountable lead. There's plenty of breathing room until Barney hobbles back.

That half game lead is holding up nicely
