08:02 AM ET 04.02 | The Cardinals on Monday, in jettisoning one of their rostered quarterbacks, made a little room for another. The team released John Skelton, who started 17 games in three seasons with the team. That move could foreshadow the acquisition of Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer, a possible trade the Cardinals have been pursuing since last weekend. "C'est la vie. Had some good times in AZ along with more than a few bad. On to the next endeavor," Skelton tweeted after his release on Monday. Palmer, 33, would become the Cardinals starter, provided the deal can be pulled off, with Drew Stanton as the backup. The trade is expected to involve draft picks.

And the drama builds to an almost unbearable climax....

I didn't know Red Skelton played professional football.

If Palmer is going to do anything in his career, this is the Coach who can help hin do it, but I Think he's all monied out!!! He's doomed to Fail!!!

He can continue to produce as a mid-level QB. So if there is talent around him, they can do well. I don't ever see him getting back to being the player he was before the Steelers crushed him.

He did do something with his career (for the Bengals), but that unfortunate knee injury pretty much ended his career as a stellar QB.

What did he do with the Bengals other than cry his way out of town ?

Palmer sucks.

I'll say this: if Palmer can't beat out the likes of the awful Drew Stanton and the even worse Brian Hoyer and Ryan Lindley for a job, then even he should see that it is time to retire.

He doesn't quite have the speed that he used to have, but he can still kaddiddlehopper away from a pass rush.

I really don't understand what the Cards expect to get out of this guy.

If he doesn't slip on the pigeon-poo from Gertrude and Heathcliff.

The same thing they got out of Kolb and Skelton?

I don't know. What was it that they got out of Kolb and Sketon, exactly?

More like Freddie the Freeloader than Klem isn't he?

If Skelton is the guy that has been blocking your way forward, then maybe you are headed in the wrong direction.

I seem to remember him doing well in at least one playoff run ... until his knee was gone.

From Skelton it was primarily interceptions.
