Redskins sign Pat White to backup RGIII

06:38 PM ET 04.03 | Washington has found its backup of the future, as the team has officially signed quarterback Pat White. The fact that White cancelled his scheduled visit with the division-rival New York Giants was a good indicator of White's chances to sign with the Redskins. White provides the Redskins with a backup for Robert Griffin III that is also capable of running the option. In all likelihood current backup Kirk Cousins will remain the second-string option, though Cousins is more of a pocket passer. White previously played with the Miami Dolphins in 2009, and has also tried his hand at minor league baseball. White also worked out for the 49ers two weeks ago. The 27-year-old would join an offense that runs a similar scheme to what he ran in his college days at West Virginia.

Dude...

The last time Pat White threw a Pass in the NFL was in '09 - '10.

He threw 5 of them - none were caught.

Yet another injury-plagued player for Mike Shanahan to run into the ground.

I thought they resigned Grossmen to backup RGIII? Since Cousins is still the backup QB, aren't White and Grossmen both really potential 3rd stringers?!!!!!!

Just bringing in capable bodies for camp, and letting them battle it out.

Shanny is desperately trying to figure out who he'll play at QB after RGIII gets hurt again.

Forget about getting hurt again - he's hurt right now...

Everybody expects RG III to make a Peterson like comeback - that's not a given.

That said - Shanny needs a QB (and I don't know that White, Grossman & Co. are the answer)
