06:41 PM ET 04.03 | The conference formerly known as the Big East will now be known as the American Athletic Conference, per Brett McMurphy at ESPN. The conference has since confirmed the name change.

After selling the league's old name to the "Catholic Seven," the basketball-centric branch of the league that split off and added schools like Creighton and Butler to the fold, the ex-Big East has been trying to figure out what name to go with. It appears they've found one, although it is unfortunately close in abbreviation to the ACC. With the quickly changing nature of conference's geography and membership, it's probably best they chose to go neutral on both factors.
