Daryl Washington suspended by NFL

12:47 PM ET 04.04 | Daryl Washington was one of the most valuable players in the NFL last season, as the third-year linebacker accumulated 140 tackles, nine sacks, one interceptions, and two forced fumbles for the Arizona Cardinals. If he wants to match those totals in 2013 however, he will likely have to do it in only a fraction of a full season, since Washington has been suspended for the first four games of the season due to violating the league's substance abuse policy. Washington, a second-team AP All-Pro selection in 2012, released a statement on Wednesday, taking "full responsibility": "I was always taught that when you make a mistake, you admit it, learn from it and face whatever consequences there are," Washington said in a statement. "I take full responsibility and I understand that I let down my teammates, the organization and fans. I apologize for that and promise that no one will work harder to make up for it."

First of all, he probably can't put three coherent words together, much less a heartfelt apology such as this one. Second, he's sorry he's disappointed so many people, but not sorry that he's so **** stupid thinking he wouldn't get caught?

New Coach maybe 'somebody can help him, he cant help himself!!!!!

The league never actually releases the cause for a failed drug test. Sometimes you get an article that says it was something "according to league sources". But mostly it's up to the players, and they've found that claiming it was Adderall is easier than dealing with whatever the substance actually was.

Plus, how hard is it for a person to walk into a pill farm with cash and get an Adderall prescription? It makes sitting through meetings and memorizing the playbook so much easier, it's almost worth the risk of suspension.

But given Washington's monster season last year, I'm thinking it was probably something with a bit more kick.

I would have given him 6 games for that.

I wish him well, but the Daisy Mae hat is a non starter!

Nice to hear no excuses or b.s., nothing but "I screwed up, I'm sorry and I'll work my butt off to make it right". Don't care what he took, if what he said is true he's a great model for other players to follow about how to handle making a mistake.

He looks like an extra from Django Unchained.
