Bengals claim John Skelton

01:08 PM ET 04.04 | The Bengals acquired quarterback John Skelton off waivers from the Cardinals on Wednesday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy. The Bengals lost the backup quarterback they had used over the past two seasons, Bruce Gradkowski, to the Steelers in free agency shortly after the beginning of the new league year. They then signed Josh Johnson, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns as Andy Dalton's new backup. The addition of Skelton will add some competition at the reserve position because it's unlikely that both he and Johnson will make the final roster. Skelton was a fifth-round pick in 2010 by the Cardinals out of Fordham. He has only played in 20 games during his three years in the league, starting 17 of them.

The Redskins would argue that you really need to have 3 backups. Keep on the phone, Bengals.
