Oakland Raiders "very likely" to trade down in draft

06:44 PM ET 04.04 | The Oakland Raiders own the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but they may not want to keep it. According to Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group, the Raiders are "very" likely to find a trade partner for the No. 3 pick. Oakland has been linked most notably to West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, but with two quarterbacks in Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor already on the roster, drafting him this high would seem like a waste. Late last month, GM Reggie McKenzie was scouting quarterback Matt Barkley at USC's Pro Day. Barkley is projected to be selected in the late first round to early second round, but the Raiders don't have a pick in that range (are you catching my drift here?). If you put two and two together, it seems like Oakland may want to trade down from the coveted No. 3 selection in the NFL Draft.

Now all they need is someone looking to Trade Up... Not always a given.

Especially with this year's draft class.

The interns are getting very creative with their writing. The article about Cork's view is based on a tweet where someone asks if its likely that they trade down and his response was... 'very'.

And thus a FN rumor was born.

I 'hope' they pick BPA at number 3. Maybe FN can write something on that.

The disappointment has already set in...I am sure they will surprise everyone--that's what they like to do--they will probably trade down to 10 and take a projected 3rd rounder with the selection---but he'll be fast!

Isn't everyone trying to trade down with this draft?

Teams need to stop chasing after those USC QBs. And Barkley is not as good as Sanchez, Leinert, Palmer and Cassell. Think about that.

True... I heard ARZ was looking at Barkley.

I was like "Didn't they just waste a 1st rounder on a USC QB"? And like you said - Leinart was (much) better than Barkely.

Dennis Allen looks more like bank teller than a pro football head coach .

I've heard they are trying to work a deal with the 49ers. Their third overall pick in the first round for the 49ers 1st, 2nd (the 34th overall from KC) , and 3rd picks.

Good deal for both sides.

I wonder if their across the Bay friends will dance with them... The rich get richer . . .

What is wrong with using the pick on A&M Luke Joeckel for QB protection.

They want barkley because he knows where to get pot at college prices on the west coasts. LOL

For the Raiders to trade down, they need a team stupid enough to trade up. NOT . . . GONNA . . . HAPPEN . . . .

April 6, 2013  09:19 AM ET

The draft doesn't have the super stars this year worthy of trading up. It's not going to happen--at least not a 'fair' trade using the point system. So instead of trading down to a mid-round 1st round pick they won't pick up a 2nd -- they would be lucky to pick up a 4th.

This would make sense for both teams, as the Niners are only another really good player or two away from possible dominance for a short period of time, which is all that can be hoped for in this day and age. On the other hand, the Raiders need several good players alot more than one great player, who probably isn't in this draft anyway.
