Auburn stuck between innocent and not guilty

08:20 AM ET 04.05 | Mike McNeil sets up as the key subject in the explosive story that ran this week, but he's not the subject. That's a compelling tale all by itself, but it gets lost in the larger story wrapped around it. The one about Auburn football. About "how Auburn football operates as an underground society beneath the NCAA's radar." Or so the author says. ... [This] episode won't end with probation and sanctions, with someone showing up on campus to take back the crystal football. It'll probably stay right where it is as far as all these eyes on Auburn can see, surrounded by questions, stuck in the middle of this tug-of-war between innocent and not guilty.

Auburn got caught paying Cam Newton $250K and this story is surprising? Of course they're guilty and every team that is good is also cheating, you have to. Only way to stop it is to pay the players OVER the table.

Stuck between guilty and prove it....

If it comes to grade changes, it much easier to prove then $ changing hands.

These reporters don't really care about following up a story. They just want to make a big splash and then move on.

As long as Pat Dye is hanging around the auburn program, you will always have these types of stories come out every 3 years or so.

And yet on the other thread about this you said...

All of these things, well, we hear about it in Alabama and now it is confirmed. Selena Rogers is an auburn graduate. She didn't go looking for this story. She was doing a story on the guys that committed the armed robbery and people started speaking up. And, as she said, when you put your name out there, there's going to be a lot of backlash. I think that is why you are seeing the guys quoted saying they didn't say those things.

So now you are saying that it probably isn't true?

Hmmm

I don't see how what I said on the other thread negates what I said here. I believe it to be true, but the reporters don't care to keep digging at a story after the initial story. That's why nothing ever comes of it.

Its already been proven they aren't "innocent" on the payments to Cam's dad. But, since they couldn't find the money trail, its "not guilty".

Huge difference.

OJ was "not guilty", but far from innocent.

Good point!!! IMO, nothing will happen to Auburn!!! It will be hard to prove anything!!!!

Yeah, I guess they found the "money trail" in the Reggie Bush case, right??? :-)

Now if they can prove "grade changes", there definitely, will be a case of "Lack of institutional control"!!!!

actually they did - it was easy seeing the payments from the agent to the mortgage company in the house where the family stayed. And he stated he made the payments for signing RB the following year.

easy-peazy if there are records and the guy making the payments talks

Like I said on the other thread, if Aubie had just paid more attention to the right parts of "The SEC Cheater's Handbook and Criminal Justice Avoidance Guide", they wouldn't be in this mess. Those people need to focus!

People at Auburn don't get paid to read ... they get paid to play football.

What say you Gator fans about Will Muschamp's name being mentioned in these goings-on at Auburn?

It is the word of an alleged felon vs the word of a college football coach...

Plus it is cash, no proof... SEC Cheaters Handbook.

If it had to come out, now is a great time. It is spring instead of Fall.
