08:24 AM ET 04.05 | Friday night's the night for defenseman Danny DeKeyser. Minutes after the Wings' 4-2 loss Thursday to the Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena, coach Mike Babcock said DeKeyser will play against the Avalanche. It's not uncommon to get untested players into a road game first, since there's less pressure than playing at home, and at least DeKeyser has his family with him on this trip. "I've been feeling good the last few days," DeKeyser said. "I think I'm ready to go." DeKeyser only has practiced with the Wings for less than a week, joining them Saturday, a week after his career at Western Michigan ended. "We sure like what we see," Babcock said. "We just have to have enough courage to fire him in and get on with it."

Sppellling isn't as impotant as it use't ta be...its da messege that's impotant...

The message here might be we need to do something or we aren't going to be playing in the post season.

True dat. And it would seem strange to not have the Wings in the playoffs

They might need a few down years to rebuild/reload.

These guys been a disappointment all year...flashes of brilliance followed by "who's got the puck ...no you take it" idiocy... they need to get their crap together soon or my bet is they don't make it to the PO's

They are going to debut the new kid? Does that mean that they'll chew his arse off if he doesn't do well?

April 5, 2013  09:45 AM ET

First the Monster and now NCAA saviours? Has Detroit become To***to Lite?

April 5, 2013  09:51 AM ET

I hope they do dress him soon, might as well see what he has. It can't get any worse back there.

So you weren't impressed with them losing to a team that, pretty much in its entirety, was sick with a stomach bug? They had buckets on the bench for god's sake.

Watch out boys, Nick Lidstrom 2.0

Nope. Nick Lidstrom Light .... ......Very Light.

But .... one can always hope.

April 5, 2013  12:02 PM ET

if he was THAT good, why did nobody offer him a contract at the end of last season, or the season before?

These college grad signings are nothing more than teams fighting for a prospect that they don't have to waste a draft pick on. Not saying he won't make the nhl or be any good, but most often these guys are total busts.

well, the Wings do have a reputation for finding diamons in the rough.

but anyways...bacock says he likes what he sees...

wtf is babcock supposed to say? 'this kid fuquing sucks, why the fuque are we wasting time on him?'

I already accepted that possibility and I'm at peace with it. I won't be looking for any tall bridges if they don't.

He's SO good they traded Kent Huskins to the Flyers!!! Now that's saying something! (removes tongue from cheek).

But in seriousness, he's supposed to be pretty good. I remember last year some threads on here talking about him and the Red Wings (and others) trying to get him; he just decided to go back to school. Chris Kunitz, Adam Oates and Ed Belfour were college free agents...or he could be another Ray Staszak that the Wings were so desparate for in '85.
