08:26 AM ET 04.05 | Nearly two decades after Daniel Alfredsson's Calder Trophy-winning season, the Senators captain finally has some company in the discussion. [Alfredsson] now has five teammates who deserve at least some consideration as the NHL's top rookie in 2013. Three of them are on one line. While Patrick Wiercioch is the second highest scoring first-year defenceman and Robin Lehner is only a few appearances shy of being the top rookie goalie, Cory 'Little Train' Conacher, Mika Zibanejad and Jakob Silfverberg are Nos. 2, 8 and 11 in freshmen scoring with a quarter of the season remaining. Coach Paul MacLean has decided to use Conacher alongside Zibanejad and Silfverberg for his Senators debut in Buffalo.

The Sens are deep...didnt really notice...i think Vanek in a Sens uni makes too much sense...IMO they're gonna be scary good in a couple of seasons.

Not sure it will take a "couple" seasons. If everyone is healthy next season...

I'd like to see that Bishop. Kid definitely has looked good and would like to see what he can do in a full season with a healthy team around him.
Heck, it'd be the only good news the Panthers have had lately -- other than Dale Tallon not panicking and giving up prospects for Luongo and that albatross of a contract.

(Albatross!!)

1) Well, as it is the ROY award, mentiong them as rookies is at best, redundant

2) what, were they sitting around the table talking about it? A poorly worded headline

Dont know why they'd want him when the Panthers have Markstrom.

I was replying to The Bishop...not referring to the recently traded goalie...

What's really amazing Spiny is they're all doing it in their first year. :-)

Brendan Gallagher.

MacLean has to be Coach of the Year with all the bodies he has been moving in and out.

yes and no. I htink alot of guys are playing above their heads and that not every prospect will pan out as desired.

That being said, they are a good team, well coached...will be competitive for the forseeable future. Murray has probably solidified himself as one of the better gm's in hockey if you look at this and the job he did in anaheim.

I think that if you look at the body of work, Saad and Gallagher deliver the goods. Huberdeau's a nice player, but I think the two players above give more to their teams at the moment.

I think there's a good chance he gets it just to give something for that market to talk about. Still, I don't think he delivers the same way some others have. But that's ok.

What? Ziba, Silver and Connie? That's not so difficult.

The little guy has been huge on Montreal.

He makes you sit up and take notice.
