Blake Griffin doesn't want Clippers to hang division banner

11:47 AM ET 04.06 | The Los Angeles Clippers don't have any championship banners up at Staples Center, and Blake Griffin wants to keep it that way until they win an NBA title. The Clippers' franchise, dating to their inception as the Buffalo Braves in 1970, has never won a division title. But the team's next win, or a loss by the Golden State Warriors, will give the Clippers their first Pacific Division championship. It's a moment Griffin is looking forward to, but he hopes the team doesn't hang a banner commemorating the occasion in the same rafters that hold the Los Angeles Lakers' 16 NBA championship banners. "I kind of have bigger goals than that for the team," Griffin said. "I think the team has bigger goals than that. We expected to win the division. We didn't come into this season thinking, 'Oh, it would be great if we could win the division.' We expected it. It's something to be proud of and maybe there's a banner that goes up (in the training facility), but it's not something that needs to go up in Staples [Center], and we don't need to hang our hat on that."

I understand Griffin's desire to win it all, and not be satisfied with just a division championship. But it is a milestone and needs to be celebrated. If Laker divsion banners are displayed in Staples, then this one should be as well.

It would look kind of silly hanging in that building.

Yep.
Talk about setting the bar low for the Clipps.

even if they win a title, it will still pale in comparison to the many Lakers titles, so there's no point trying to overtake them. hang up what needs/deserves to be hung up and be proud of it.

Embrace it and work and making that banner the cornerstone of your career and Clippers history. No other players have ever been able to accomplish this for the franchise.

Just leave room on the rafters for all the future Lakers banners that are to come...

Agreed, it's nothing to sneeze at. But to take it to the next level Blake will have to develop a go to perimeter shot. In the off season he should see if Karl Malone can show him a few moves.

Wait until they play the Thunder in the playoffs if the Lakers make it.

On the court or off?

Preferably on the court. Off the court is another matter.
