04:48 PM ET 04.08 | Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin will miss the remainder of the 2013 season due to a torn ligament in his left knee, according to an announcement by the team on Monday afternoon. Emelin sustained the injury in Saturday night's game against the Boston Bruins while attempting to hit Bruins forward Milan Lucic. As Lucic carried the puck, Emelin attempted to land the hit but ended up receiving the rougher end of the collision. In 38 games this season, the 26-year-old has accumulated three goals and nine assists for 12 points.

Don Cherry's take on the situation when you run somebody like Lucic was very interesting...

too bad. Emelin was having a great season. If it had to happen, I wish it had been before the trade-deadline. It's a big loss because he's the defensive balance for Markov.

I don't know Don Cherry's take is. But here's mine: If you're going to run somebody like Lucic, do it when he's not looking.

Hopefully Diaz comes back soon. They called up Baulieu, but I'm not sure that he's the guy I'd like to see. I think as a replacement it'd probably be better to see Tinordi or Pateryn pick up some of those minutes. I guess we'll see what they do now that it's confirmed that Emelin is done.

Damn, that's unfortunate. He will be missed.

He compared it to the way John Ferguson would have handled it.

As soon as Lucic saw him he sort of jumped up and led with his right knee.

After that it was physics and a bad bounce for Emelin. Lucic has 20 lbs on him.

When teams attempt to play above their heads, bad things happen.

Like the Bruins on Sat evening? Going up against the great PK at home?

Whatever it was, it was hilarious.

Hilarious that Emelin got hurt? You sick puppy you.

I may recind any support for the Leafs I had now.

I thought it was funnier when this year's Norris winner (PK Chelios NOT Cody Fransen) missed Schenn in the Flyers game or when he just missed Lucic (aka Lummox Deux) in the previous Mont-Bos meeting and went flying bum over noggin' into the boards.

No kidding, Lucic has been there before.
