Chiefs ready to make No. 1 history?

08:04 AM ET 04.10 | Is this the year? A guard has never been selected with the first pick of the NFL Draft. And no guard has even cracked the top 10 since the New Orleans Saints took Chris Naeole of Colorado 10th overall in 1997. If ever there were a year for a guard to go first overall, this could be it. The Chiefs' previous administration selected Jon Asamoah in the third round in 2010 and Jeff Allen in the second round in 2012, but if new general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid stick to their dictum of taking the "best player available," some believe that guy is Alabama guard Chance Warmack. Even ahead of the two highly rated offensive tackles, Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan.

O-tay! Nice lettuce, Chance.

I just made #2 history.

Or maybe they'll trade down a few spots. This guy might still be available, and they could end up with an extra late-round pick or two to play with.

What really bugs KC is they have no second round pick , the 49ers have their pick to lead off the second round. And nobody will give much for that first pick. Lousy timing, last year it would have bought you a boatload of ones.

No Way at # 1...

Can't believe he would leave a stud DL on the board with that rush defense but it is Andy Reid.

If he goes # 1 T & R will use that Buckwheat hairdo picture for years.

The Chiefs have drafted DL with their #1 pick a few times with no success:

2008: Glenn Dorsey DT (#5 overall) - BUST
2009: Tyson Jackson DE (#3 overall) - BUST
2012: Dontary Poe NT (#11 overall) - BUST before he was even drafted.

Now granted for some reason the Chiefs liked what they saw in LSU defensive lineman but hopefully never again.

They need to invest on the left side of the line to protect their new investment of Alex Smith and Joeckel would be a great start, not Naeole.

You are exactly right. If no one trades up for K.C.'s #1 then I see them taking a defensive player maybe Milliner or Floyd and wait till the 3rd or 4th round to pick up an offensive lineman.

With whom? No one wants to trade up.

We shall see how Dorsey does in San Francisco. If he truly is a bust, his next 2 years in SF will be his last. If he does well then he has 6 good years ahead of him.

I've seen alot of Mock Drafts... And none of them have this guy inside of #8

When there's nothing else to write about... Make stuff up (Journalism 101).

If K.C. were to mention that they are going to take Milliner or Floyd then someone might want to trade up. Those 2 players are more highly prized in this years draft.

How is someone a "bust" after one year in the league? Of the three, Poe easily had the best rookie year and considering that he was the least experienced, he still has plenty of upside. Also, Tyson Jackson is only a "bust" in the sense that he got drafted MUCH earlier than he should have. He's played well when healthy these last couple of seasons and while he damn sure wasn't worthy of such a high pick, he's still become a positive contributor to the Chiefs' defense. In my mind a "bust" is somebody that doesn't improve the team at all.

Also, Naoele? Wtf?

Perhaps not right now, but wait. P.T. Barnum was right. There's a sucker born every minute.
