08:25 AM ET 04.10 | Not long after the Sharks were shut out in Columbus on Tuesday, Joe Thornton went off his typical script. [Thornton] -- who acknowledges he normally looks for positives even in defeat -- placed responsibility for the loss on his own shoulders. "Tough night for our line and we've got to be better," Thornton said. "Speaking for my personal game, I've got to tighten up and get better. If I do that, the other guys will follow." Thornton's limited ice time shows his coach agreed. Thornton played a season-low 10:30, with only 2:31 of that coming in the third period. ... "There are situations that he has to be better in and I'm glad that he took that responsibility," coach Todd McLellan said of Thornton.

Remember that time Joe called the Rangers "the softest team in the league"?

I think that was Dumbo Joe.

And the time Gretzky called NJD a "Mickey Mouse organization"

Oh wait, wrong thread. Will take that over to the COL-bashing thread

Taking personal responsibility? Can't fault him for that, not at all.

QUOTE(#5):

Sure can't, but Joe has consistently been the biggest little guy on the ice for his entire career. He has never shown an interest in using his size as the advantage it should be.

Gentle giant, perhaps? I hear you.

That'd be great if he changed light bulbs in a rest home for a living but he plays in the NHL. :-)

or maybe just not made for this game?
And I remember when he called the Rangers soft. Hilarious when players do that.
And when Gretzky said that about the Devils, at the time it was right....though not something that needed to be blurted out like that, show some class.

Yeah, not arguing any of that...all I said is he took some personal responsibility. Great compared to ducking it.
