Ravens, Rolando McClain 'nearing' a deal

01:51 PM ET 04.10 | Former Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain has only been on the open market for a few days, but he could be off it soon, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Baltimore Ravens are "nearing" a deal with the former-top 10 pick. While Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports there "is still work to be done" before the two sides agree on a deal, the addition of McClain would fill a large need for the Ravens. McClain, 23, didn't put up tremendous numbers for the Raiders in his first three seasons in the NFL, but he was a solid player for the team, tallying 244 tackles, 6.5 sacks and an interception in 41 games played. Since being drafted, though, he has been arrested twice and had a public falling-out with the Raiders, which included comments that he'd "like to be anywhere" other than with the team that drafted him eighth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. After hitting the open market, McClain drew interest right away as three teams gave him contract offers and two other teams showed interest within 24 hours of the linebacker clearing waivers. The Ravens are one team that has a need at inside linebacker after the retirement of Ray Lewis and the departure of Dannell Ellerbe in free agency.

He's still young enough to get back on track, if he's motivated enough to do so.

Players usually get motivated once they leave the Raiders.

What a great move by the Ravens. Ray Lewis will not be replaced, by McClain is as good a defensive QB as you will find

That they do. That's the one of the reasons why the Pats picked up Tommy Kelley.

Yes, but McClain is a better offensive LB.

Hey... I just encourage.... Not here to correct.

This could mean a double-McClain on the inside next year

I hate to admit it but it's true. Usually because of the huge contracts Davis would give players - once they go the money, they didn't have to prove anything really.

Looking forward to that changing with the new culture they are creating.

He was only arrested twice with the Raiders. Good for him.

So, the guy has been arrested for "discharging" fire arms in a city limits, a car he was riding in gets shot at and three months ago he is arrested for giving false identity to the police.

He just might be the perfect guy to replace Ray Lewis.

He probably learned that watching and reading how the police do it all the time.

Maybe he'll get religion and have his own game dance. As Bart Scott said, can't wait!
