Alabama loses starting LB for spring

05:32 PM ET 04.10 | Alabama has lost a starting linebacker for the rest of spring ball, as Trey DePriest broke his foot in a scrimmage and needed surgery.

DePriest was the second-leading tackler on the 2012 Crimson Tide, starting 13 games at middle linebacker alongside Nico Johnson. With Johnson gone to the NFL, DePriest is supposed to be a key figure in the middle of a squad whose defense has won two straight national titles. It doesn't seem likely that his injury will keep him out of any regular season action, but if it does, the team has backup: Ryan Anderson has received praise for his play in spring ball, and Reggie Ragland was the top inside linebacker in his class, per Rivals.

We definitely don't want to lose him, but if there was any position besides RB that we could take an injury, it's LB.

I'm just glad that his target is a Dawg and not a Vol. Too many Vols showing up on the receiving end of somebody else's highlight pic.

Best of luck to the young man in his recovery.

And Doc, I agree on that tackle. A thing of beauty. I hope the UF coaches print that pic, and plaster it all over the locker room.

Man...not good. These things have a tendency to snow ball on a team. The fact he needed surgery makes it a much longer recovery. He may not be back in time. Big loss. What has me worried is we sure have a lot of black jerseys right now. (injured players) We need to get healthy.

A lot of those black jerseys come off when it is actual time to play a game.
