Vols' wake-up call: Shrieking babies, sirens, planes

08:18 AM ET 04.11 | At just about any other time, the corner of Pat Head Summitt Drive and Johnny Majors Drive is a great spot for Vols football. Then came Tuesday morning. First, a shrieking baby sent daggers through the air. Then an amped-up car alarm wailed. Then a plane took off -- wooosh. Then an air-raid siren thumped eardrums. A new daycare? A car break-in? An impromptu airport opening? Troops invading from Tuscaloosa? Nay. Tennessee football. For this spring practice, coach Butch Jones lobbed every distraction possible at his Vols, blocking out the sun with white noise. "I heard the baby crying and I was like, 'Wait, what is this?'" said defensive tackle Trevarris Saulsberry.

But what does he think about paying the players....Inquiring minds want to know

For a coach who hasn't won a game yet at TN Butch Jones sure gets a lot of media attention.

I've been hoping/praying/sticking pins in voodoo dolls of all the West teams, and still came up short last year.

Interesting observation, sir. Is the media coverage due to a school's status? Is TN an elite program? They certainly were at one time, but not currently, if on field results count for anything. Or, are some programs elite just because the media says so?

In a historical perspective, Tennessee has an accomplished football program. One may characterize the program as "elite" only in this context. Present circumstances place UTK in the afterthought echelon of teams among the cadre of dominant D1 conferences. Hopefully, that will chance, soon.

Yeah, we're all good in Northwest Arkansas. Had enough hail to cover the ground, but it was pea-sized. Made the roads slick and created havoc for the morons, but it's all behind us now (except for the 30 degree weather this AM!).

Thanks for asking.....
