Bryzgalov on possible buyout: 'I don't care'

08:23 AM ET 04.11 | With Steve Mason comes rest for Ilya Bryzgalov, but also uncertainty. Bryzgalov is just finishing the second season of his nine-year, $51 million contract, but could become a free agent after this season or next due to a clause in the league's new collective bargaining agreement allowing franchises to buy out two players for two-thirds of the remaining contract. He's a candidate, first and foremost, because the Flyers could have trouble next season getting under the salary cap, which is dropping from $70.2 million this season to $64.3 million in 2013-14. His thoughts? "To be honest, I don't care," he said. "Really, I don't care. I have no control on this, so why should I care?"

Q for PHA nation

Has Bryz been so BAD that Steve Mason (he of questionable success and middling stats) is pushing him out of the crease?

Wow.

Nooooooooooo....Leighton and Boucher were so bad that the Flyers needed to find another backup.

There seems to be 2 Bryxgalovs. He makes excellent stops at times, then other times, he lets in very soft goals. He is also the worst on breakaways and Shootout attempts.

"To be honest, I don't care"

If Philly fans didn't already loathe you, they do now.

I mean he does have control. Stop a puck once in awhile and maybe you wouldnt be expendable ey Bryz?

April 11, 2013  09:23 AM ET

On one hand, I think obviously he should care and play like he cares. On the other hand, what the hell what is he supposed to say in that City? He can't win no matter what he says.

The Flyers should have never given him a 9 year deal to begin with. He was 31 when he signed it, that means we are stuck with him til he is 40 years old??? Only guys like Brodeur, Roy, and Hasik would I even think about giving a 9 year contract to in this salary cap age of sports. The Flyers have mismanaged the cap since its inception 2005-06 and now they have egg on their face because the goalie they gave up (Bobrovsky) to sign Bryz is having a Vezina type year in Columbus. So what do the Flyers do: They traded Bobrovsky's backup (Steve Mason) who may now be our starting goalie next year if amnesty Bryz! 38 years since our last Stanley Cup.....

Why should he care? He'll end up with $25 million or so. I could live on that for a while.

This is the thread that should have the "Snyder Tragedy " headline.

Well, when most of what comes out of your mouth is ****, it's kinda hard to win over anybody.

And if he still continues to word vomit, he alienates the fans and management, gets bought out, has that large coin in his pocket, becomes a free agent and can take his circus to a new town that doesn't focus on the goalie. (Is there one? Yes, Toronto, probably Toronto.)

He's talking about not caring about a buyout not about wins/losses. This is different than the "For who? For what?" answer an Eagle gave several years ago when he was asked why he didn't try to catch a pass. I think most fans like Bryz but are frustrated with his inconsistency.
