08:24 AM ET 04.12 | This is not a very good week for the athletic program in Ames. An Iowa State University investigation found three years' worth of impermissible phone calls and text messages that "constitute a major infractions case," according to the summary disposition report ISU submitted to the NCAA. ... Six current and former members of the ISU football and men's basketball coaching staffs face potential NCAA penalties as well. Current ISU football assistant coaches Shane Burnham and Bill Bleil are included in the report. Former ISU football assistants Bobby Elliott and Luke Wells, as well as former ISU men's basketball staff members Daniyal Robinson and Keith "Lefty" Moore were also named. All are at risk of an NCAA show-cause penalty.

Questions for those of you that know recruiting rules better than I do.

Would these be infractions if the new rules had been in place when these calls/texts occurred?

April 12, 2013  08:43 AM ET

Yeah, sure.. That's the Big 12 school that immediately comes to my mind when you mention "major infractions".

What, no Gene Chizik allegation? Oh, come ON, he has SEC ties, you KNOW he was doing SOMETHING illegal!

Nah, just five.

Pity. I State was on the rise.

If you're gonna cheat, at least have a good team.

SEC uses burner phones ... not traceable.

Better?

Death Penalty.

You're welcome SVT.

April 12, 2013  10:36 AM ET

Cheating, and they STILL suck! You can tell they don't have a copy of the SEC Cheaters and BBQ Handbook!

Fortunatly, fine, clean programs like Zero U and UTsux dominate this pristine conference!

April 12, 2013  10:42 AM ET

I met several I-Staters while riding RAGBRAI XXXVIIII. I've sympathy for them in light of these reports.

April 12, 2013  10:49 AM ET

This looks tame compared to what happened at UNC, Miami and Auburn, and the NCAA's incompetence resulted in punishment not fitting those crimes. I wonder what will happen to I State?

What's funny ... Emmert wanted unlimited calling and texting to be legal in 2013, but the committee put it on hold. Will he punish I-State for something he doesn't see as a problem?

But yeah you're probably right they'll get hammered!

LSOP's get the hammer. Of course, SCw fans will not see it that way...

;-)

You can't have the kind of success I-State has had, and not be cheating. They're basically the Miami Hurricanes of Division I-A football.

Just look at their uniforms. They're trying real hard to emulate USC ...
