While Randy Carlyle would like to see more consistent effort and to have his team tighten up defensively at times, he has to admire its ability to grind out wins and points no matter the opponent, no matter the venue. The result has them a couple of wins away from clinching a playoff spot, but more importantly other teams no longer can take the Leafs lightly. ... [The] Leafs have defeated all three division leaders, including a big early win over the Penguins at Pittsburgh. Their performance at the ACC has been spruced up lately, but the Leafs are particularly effective on the road.
