03:01 PM ET 04.12 | The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation has blocked the tentative agreement between the Boston Bruins and forward Carl Soderberg, according to multiple reports on Thursday afternoon. The Bruins had reportedly signed Soderberg to a three-year contract with the only factor standing between Soderberg joining the Bruins being the transfer agreement not being accepted. It is believed that Soderberg's transfer will not be accepted until after the completion of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in May. Sweden is one of the host nations.

It looks like Carl Soderberg won't be able to save the Bruins after all.

April 12, 2013  03:15 PM ET

yup...but the delay makes sense.

Probably won't be selling a lot of meatballs in Boston.

I would be surprised if Chiarelli didn't foresee this happening.

If he shows up to the press conference completely dishevelled and looking like he just woke up from a drinking binge, then you know that he didn't foresee it.

I understand if Sweden is in the Finals.

April 12, 2013  06:25 PM ET

It would still be fun to see Sweden's first defection!!!

Does the man not have the basic right as a human being to work/play wherever he chooses?

He signed a contract and they are holding him to it.

I'm actually starting to feel bad for Boston, they can't buy a break these days.

Burgh - Does his contract in Sweden contain clauses that give the Swedish Federation the right to prevent him from accepting an offer that would beep him out of the country for the international tourney in May. Not disputing your statement, just curious.

Don't really know, but I'm assuming it does. Come to think of it, Malkin was in a similar situation and he defected to Pittsburgh. I don't know how that issue was resolved.

we want the european associations to honor existing nhl contracts, so that the KHL doesn't overbid and create a situation of defections...but when it comes to a kid going the other way we're supposed to cry about a technicality that prevents him from coming as a late season (post trade-deadline) acquisition. Wow, amazing. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised that the Boston crowd would whine that it doesn't go their way.
