09:40 AM ET 04.13 | Assessing blame starts early for lottery-bound teams, and the Mavericks are no different. As you might suspect, owner Mark Cuban is ready to accept fault. Plus, he's ready to zero in on one of the main things he and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson must fix in the off-season: this team???s collective basketball IQ. For Cuban, the job of retooling the roster begins this summer. But he's already got some ideas. "Look, it didn't work out the way we planned," Cuban said. "It's all on me and Donnie. It's our job to put people in position to succeed. We didn't do enough of it. I bust my [tail] to do as best as we can. No one hates losing more than me." After watching 79 games, Cuban said the lack of a point guard with moxie like Jason Kidd, or even Derek Fisher, sabotaged the Mavericks. "I'm proud of the effort, I'm just not always proud of the basketball IQ," Cuban said. "When you see dumb plays, sometimes they look like lack-of-effort plays when they're just dumb. -- We definitely need more basketball IQ."

No kidding! My all time favorite stat: The Mavs became the first NBA champion EVER to get swept in the first round the next year, and they follow that up with missing the playoffs. Nice job, Cuban! Most overrated owner in sports, got one fluke championship then this.

its kobe's fault

Bout the only thing he's not being blamed for is his own Achilles injury. Sounds like that one might fall on Dantoni (or how ever you spell his Jersey Shore name)

Broadcast.com today wouldn't sell for 10 cents.

And that's on Cuban?

I'd call Cuban many things...but lucky would not be one. He worked his tail off to build a company of value, which he then cashed in on at the correct time.

There are enough legit reason to criticize the man without making up new ones.

When you push old guys too far, something breaks. The new Mr Glass?

I mean, Wade barely intentionally tapped him on the face during that exhibition and his nose just shattered! Mr. Glass it is!

Amazing that Cleveland has never gotten a fluke championsip

Yeah, I can get behind "flukes" when we're talking about single games or major injuries that alter the course of a series.... but if you get beat straight up in a 7 game series, then the other team was simply better than you.
