12:06 PM ET 04.14 | The Oilers lost 4-1 to the Abbotsford Heat, masquerading as the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With six farmhands in their lineup, with no Jarome Iginla, no Jay Bouwmeester, no Alex Tanguay, no Curtis Glencross, with Miikka Kiprusoff on the bench and not in net, they slapped the Oilers upside the head. Max Reinhart, the brother of Oil Kings junior captain Griffin Reinhart, had his first NHL goal, and fellow AHL farmhand Sven Baertschi had his first this season, while Mikael Backlund and Dennis Wideman had the others for the Flames. They were playing their second game in as many nights, supposedly playing out the string, while the Oilers were healthy and rested after a 3-1 setback to Phoenix last Wednesday, and they laid a bigger egg than the one in Vegreville. "Not a lot of won battles, won races ... just not the hockey we want to play. We have to be proud of what we're doing here -- that team (Calgary) is doing it," said Oilers winger Taylor Hall, who had nine shots on Flames goalie Joey MacDonald. "We're the Oilers, we get paid a lot of money to do this. We have to come and put our hard-hats on, work and compete and see what happens. We can do as many systems as we want and we can practice, but it comes down to battles."

Young quick players with plenty to prove, was fun to watch.

The only battle left that is of any concern for the Oilers is the battle for Seth Jones. And ... they're well on their way to wining it.

You mean ... on the Flames side, right? The young ones on the Oil side didn't prove much, and their veterans aren't worth a bucket of dog ****!

Hockey. The last bastion for tired, overused sports cliches.

At least the kid cares. That's a whole lot more than can be said of the Oilers veterans. Collectively, they don't give a damn.
