Johnny Manziel regrets ill-advised spring game block

12:20 PM ET 04.14 | Six days after firing the ceremonial first pitch at a Texas Rangers game, Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Johnny Manziel continued his baseball fantasy on Saturday. This time with a hard, headfirst slide -- right into a defensive back at Kyle Field. The perilous block by Manziel, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, occurred following his swing pass to the right to Brandon Williams, who then cut left and eased into the end zone from 10 yards out with Manziel's surprising help. It was a daring play his coaches might cheer in a Bowl Championship Series game -- but not A&M's annual spring fling. "The way I am and the way my motor drives me, it was just an instinct play," Manziel said. "As soon as I got back to coach (Kevin Sumlin) and he was shaking his head and wasn't happy about it ... I immediately regretted it. It was a mistake, but it was just my competitive nature."

Brandon Williams is a stud ... would like to have seen him stay at OU.

Since Johnny Football is touting himself as a franchise player, then maybe he needs to take better care of himself on the field. Or, continue on and painfully discover he doesn't wear an "S" on his chest after all.

Because USC certainly never could!!!!!

Coach Sumlin is gonna be prematurely gray with this guy. For his on-the-field stuff, and off.

Sometime within the next three years, we'll read the headline, "Johnny Football Out at TAMU." Coach Sumlin will soberly declare that Manziel broke the rules and breached the trust of A&M, the coaches, and his teammates. He'll further state that though it hurts him to do this, nobody is above the rules; Texas A&M football is about team, university, and community, and to play for the Aggies, everyone must believe it and live it.

Manziel will get an agent, prep for the pros, finagle an invite to the combine, and/or arrange his own pro day at a high school or other facility.

Alternately, Johnny Boy will chafe under the strictures of collegiate ball, jump to the pros as an underclassman, blow his initial shot at the NFL, get a gig in Arena ball, and slowly work his way back.

I don't think JF has done anything "wrong" in the off-season....just being a kid, which he is (age 20).

Nothing wrong with on-line courses. Working from home part of each week is a blast and I would expect OL courses to be the same.

I think he knows the rules and is just having some fun....

Wrong? No. Stupid? Yes. Johnny Foozball has spent the off-season vigorously honing his skills as an artist...by painting a huge target on his back.
