12:27 AM ET 04.15 | Kobe Bryant has already begun his recovery process on the torn achilles, and with a recovery timetable ranging from six to nine months, the Lakers will be relying on Bryant being able to return to their lineup next season. With $30 million worth of salary counting against the Lakers, an expediate recovery is of the essence for the Lakers, and they still have a one-time amnesty provision to use from the last CBA negotiations. Will they use it on Bryant? According to Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers haven't even discussed the option, and is the furthest thing from their mind.

No way the Lakers ever amnesty Kobe. Dude brings in millions in ticket sales, jersey sales, etc. Kobe Bryant is worth a hell of a lot more to the Lakers than he costs them, and his basketball skills are only part of the reason they pay him.

Kobe makes a ton of money for the Lakers and just from a business standpoint it would be really stupid to amnesty him.

Not only that but he can still play, and as long as he can/wants to play he will be a Laker.

Lakers pulling the trigger on the amnesty would be terrible PR, and it would make Mark Cuban giddy with joy as he points at EVERYBODY and yell: "I TOLD YOU SO!!"

Kobe is a freakishly competitive dude. He will most likely work himself back into game shape by the start of next season. Or, if it's going to really take a year, he should ASK to be amnestied so that he can help out his team, take the entire year to become fearsome again, and sign with the Lakers for 2014-2015 season. He's still going to get paid, but he is going to REALLY help out his team. Yes. HIS TEAM.

Cuban is in no position to be telling anyone "I told you so."

He Will Retire Before He Is Amnestied, Bros.

Let's not kidd ourselves.. for 80million they will let him ago. Just seems like a smart business move to me. The guy's had a lot of mileage; he's 35 and he's coming back from the same thing that's sidelines 22 year old Derrick Rose for a whole year... Kobe's right. That's the end of his book. Call it Achilles Kobe!

im up in the air on this. It would be smart for the Lakers to Amnesty Kobe, but I doubt it they would.

He's going out like a Greek hero. That's not too shabby.

Unless he was before you in saying, talking in the third person, "Boy, Cuban really messed this team up".
