07:55 AM ET 04.15 | Day 2 in the Ted Lilly standoff passed without resolution over the weekend. The Dodgers on Saturday asked Lilly to continue his Minor League rehab assignment with two more starts and he declined. He can't be sent out without his permission and he declared himself healthy and ready to pitch in the Major Leagues. The club disagrees. "We laid out a plan and, obviously, he just didn't like the plan," said manager Don Mattingly, who put Chris Capuano in the starting rotation, and not Lilly, to replace the injured Zack Greinke. "From a baseball standpoint, we felt he wasn't quite ready for what we want him to do, to start. We laid out a plan and Teddy doesn't want to be part of the plan. It's out of my hands."

Lilly is right though. He can refuse to be sent to the minors as long as he's healthy. The Dodgers are playing games with the roster here. They can always designate him for assignment. I'm pretty sure that's Lilly's goal.

Lilly is destined for the AL, he's a 5 inning wonder. I'm thinking Yankees just because that's what the Yankees do, they collect aging vets. He could be a good fit in KC if the dodgers are willing to pick up some of the salary.

Stare-downs rarely ever have a way of working out well for the player.

The worst thing that happens to Lilly is that he gets paid to sit at home. The players union won't allow him to be forced to go to the minors. The Dodgers have to put him on the MLB roster, trade him , or release him.
