07:59 AM ET 04.15 | For Vandy coach James Franklin, is he happy to see the rise of his No. 2s or concerned about his No. 1s? A desperation heave to Chris Boyd and a Carey Spear 25-yard field goal on the final play of the annual Black & Gold Game allowed the projected starters to escape with a 17-15 win for the Black on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt Stadium. The Gold rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to take a 15-14 lead in the closing minutes behind freshman quarterback Johnny McCrary. McCrary, a January enrollee whose father died earlier this week, completed a 49-yard touchdown to Tip McKenzie with 4:40 to play. He then found McKenzie again for the two-point conversion.

For years Vandy has never had depth...barely had the ability to put a competitive team on the field......this is very refreshing....hopefully, Dores can put a team on the field this fall that belongs in the SEC....GO DORES......

I'd be pleased if they would lay waist to all SEC opponents excepting Tennessee, who they should lose to every year.

Wrong guys starting then.

Old adage in Texas HS football coaching.

If your varsity and junior varsity are pretty even, then you have two junior varsities."

I'm your huckleberry........let me know what the punishment is.

Great college series. The games drew 28,000+ fans for the weekend.....lots of fun.

LUS is really good, congrats on the win. Took extra innings, but you guys won it.

Presently, odds have to favor Vandy. BTW, thanks for not dinking me on the spell-check stealth typo, "waist" instead of "waste."

Seen that... 1/2 way thru the season..gotta finish strong... We are playing well though...

Gators swept USCe this weekend and are back to .500 at least. Young team on a streak, hoping they can keep the momentum. USCe was ranked #8 nationally, but are now 8-7 in the SEC.

Meanwhile the Lady Gator Lacrosse Team is 15-1, ranked #3 and whipped Vandy 21-10 Sunday.

I was shocked and impressed at that sweep.....

USCe stranded 30+ baserunners for the series. Easy to get swept doing that. But daGaduhs put a 10-spot up in one inning, now that's some serious offense right there.

Shouldnt have made it to extra innings with that one bad call down the line :)..You guys was our hardest test since we dont play Vandy... I would say you all are the 3rd best team..

not many want to play Vandy this year...very impressive....could be the Dores year if they stay mentally focused....they definitely have the talent....destroyed Mizzou this weekend....
