09:54 PM ET 04.15 | Looking to add another passer for training camp and give Tyrod Taylor some competition for the backup quarterback job, the Ravens are working out a deal for veteran Caleb Hanie, according to a league source. Hanie, a 27-year-old who started four games for the Chicago Bears in 2011, was on the Denver Broncos last season but did not get in a game. In the three previous seasons with the Bears, he played in 11 games, completing 59 of 116 passes for three touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His most memorable appearance came in the 2010 playoffs when starter Jay Cutler (knee) and his primary backup Todd Collins (shoulder) were both injured in the NFC championship game against the Green Bay Packers. Hanie came in and led the Bears on two touchdown drives, but he also threw two interceptions, including one which was returned for a touchdown. Hanie finished the game 13-for-20 for 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Chicago???s 21-14 loss.

After Flacco's payday, Ravens gotta save some money somewhere.

Word... They probably promised Hanie a house.

Uuuh, you guys do know Flacco's contract is more of a 3 year contract? After the third year, it will be restructured and extended. Similar to Brady's big payday. If Jerry Jones can give mediocre Romo a bigger guaranteed money then Flacco is worth every penny.

The hell does that have to do with Hanie's house ?

Since you're all things Baltimore. How is the development of Tyrod Taylor going ? I thought he could play last pre-season. Seems like they would at least try to build his stock and deal him.

Sorry dude, I meant to quote the Hatrunner's post, not yours.

I've seen him in practice, he is mainly a back up but knows the system well since he has been Joe's back up for awhile now. I guess the Ravens don't see any development from him, hence, they brought in Henne.

Interesting.... After pre-season they were calling him "The Human Highlight Reel". Oh well. I'm sure they know best.

Henne? That's how rumors get started...

Tyrod seems like a decent backup QB, but we really don't know what they have since they rarely need to use him. That's both a good and a bad thing, of course.

Bring back Troy Smith!

Because Hanie was so good in Denver right?

and Tyrod is? If he is, then why bother bringing in a competition?

Tyrod would excell more in a play option read top offense. With the investment they have in Flacco, perhaps they just don't have time for that.

Bloody hell, as long as Flacco is no longer the highest paid player in the league/history, give Hanie a damn house.

That my friend...I cannot answer. But I do think Tyrod honestly is a better player and a solid backup when he's gotten the chance to play. I was never impressed with Hanie when he's played
