Sanders' return to Pittsburgh only temporary?

08:04 AM ET 04.16 | At the very least, Emmanuel Sanders knows he'll be in Pittsburgh this season after the Steelers chose to match New England's offer -- but for how long? [The Steelers] might not be able to keep the wide receiver beyond the 2013 season. "We had several teams make offers in free agency so we know there are teams who really like Emmanuel," Jordan Woy, Sanders' agent, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette [Monday]. ... [Had the Steelers] not matched, they would have received New England's third-round draft choice in return. Unless the Steelers sign Sanders to a long-term contract, he will become an unrestricted free agent next March, free to sign elsewhere with no compensation going back to the Steelers.

With the Dark Lord involved, you always have to wonder if the Patriots really wanted Sanders, or just wanted to put Pittsburgh on the spot.

Gotta love the Pats for screwing other teams every offseason. Even love it more since they did it against the Ravens division Rival.

Nah, they wanted him alright. Heck, they took Edelman back after he had tried out for other teams and no one wanted him. Sanders was wanted and needed in NE, now the draft or last cuts is the only way to improve the WR position.

The steelers should have taken the pick. Gonna lose him next year anyways.

Word was that the Pats were willing to extend him beyond the one year deal if the Steelers had passed on him.

Ditto! 5 TD's in 3 years. I could have taken the 3rd round pick in a heartbeat. Then again, Steelers don't have WR depth and probably don't trust a rookie to run routes.

I am sure they would have. He was not a one year fix. Ya give Brady money guaranteed and five years ya better find some WRs or what is the point?

I think the Pats feel the same way about trying to break in a rookie wideout at this stage of TB's career. They certainly haven't had any success in trying to do it in recent years.

I just don't see the Steelers this year going that far. should have taken that 3 pick, fixed the OL and build for next year. BR has some years left if they don't beat the he## out of him now.

I wanna see what they do in the draft before I make any predictions for this year. Of course, any help from the draft will only be on the offensive side of the ball (WR, RB, TE, OL) as we all know defensive rookies don't start in Pittsburgh no mattter how talented they are unless everyone in front of them gets hurt.

Pittsburgh is a team that can always reach deep when they have to. They may yet again have a better season than the so-called experts predict.

Nothing better for the Steelers than to have a WR that is playing for a big contract...Sanders will have his best year and then if the steelers think he is worthy....they will pay him...if his price is too high...then let someone else overpay him....great for the steelers

Yep. I don't underestimate them anymore.

I've always felt this way too until last year...that line was atrocious and the defense was overrated. Usually, Pitt had a defense and stout line play if nothing else. But I do feel Tomlin can fix it

The later, love the move no matter by the Pats.

Snoozer!!

I was loving the idea of Sanders in uniform for us, but know how NOT getting him hurts the Steelers even more. They can't afford to be over the cap any since they now don't have money to sign draft picks. Sanders may be released before training camp to make room. Then we get him at a discount!
