08:07 AM ET 04.16 | Statistically, anyway, Dirk Nowitzki nears the exclusive company of a lofty milestone. The 30,000-point fraternity. Only five players belong to it: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain. Nowitzki has averaged 1,666 points per year during his 15 NBA seasons. At that rate, he could reach 30,000 in just over three seasons. ... "That's tough," Nowitzki said with smile, when asked about his chances of reaching 30,000 points. "I don't know how much time it takes for me to get (5,000 points), but I'm going to be around. I'm going to be around if I feel like I have (since) the All-Star break. Before that, obviously I was questioning it a bit."

QUOTE(#4):

It is a rarefied accomplishment indeed - to be among the top 6 scorers in NBA history. He would be the first white man (and first European) to break the 30,000 point barrier as well.In that sense, he would surpass even Larry Bird - to whom he was compared early on in his career.

Just shows how unappreciated Dirk is and how quietly he gets those numbers. It's a tough thing to do. It really shows that he has been having big numbers year in and year out. His NBA Team selection are so much also...

Dirk is only 34. Smart money says if he can avoid injury, he'll make it.
