08:14 AM ET 04.16 | Yes, this will likely be a very nice week for the coaching staff in Tuscaloosa. Alabama coach Nick Saban will have his contract "amended" and "restated" while his on-field staff of assistants are expected to receive raises at Tuesday's University of Alabama systems Board of Trustees Compensation Committee meeting. The committee will meet via conference call Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Saban and all but one of his assistants received a raise around this time last year. At that time, Saban's contract was extended through the 2019 season and he was set to make an average of $5.6 million per year. Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart's current contract runs through 2015 and paid him $950,000 in 2012. ... [Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier] made $590,000 in 2012.

I am guessing that it's the university's was of rewarding Nick for his focus on the "student athletes" that he mentors so well...!

oops...I meant "way", not "was."

Roll Coach Saban well deserved. And the assistants as well.

As for mentoring the players, I think he does a fine job. Basically 4 guys over the last 5 years. He lets go the trouble makers (described as roster management by haters). And keeps the ones that don't make trouble.

Do the bama players get raises too?

Well, duh. It's in the "SEC Cheater's Guide and Stump Removal Handbook"

$5.6 million per year to coach football. He couldn't get by on one or two mil per year? No wonder the NCAA is worried about the O'Bannon case.

I'm just "pulling your chain" JK. In spite of the fact that he crushed my alma mater in the NCG I actually like the guy. Maybe the new Pope will lay a sufficient Catholic" guilt trip on him to get him to go to ND...!

The Alabama players do not get raises in the traditional sense. They "find" money inside their mailboxes and inside their unlocked glove compartments.

Saban's Catholic? Well, that helps to explain Lucifer's choice of little Nicky as his Vessel.

April 16, 2013  01:31 PM ET

Saban: "I want a bazillion dollars, a space shuttle, and all the SI swimsuit models as concubines."

The entire state of Alabama: "OK, as long as y'all keep winnin'. "

April 16, 2013  02:06 PM ET

Yes, Coach Saint Saban is Catholic which is why he has been nominated for Sainthood.

So your repeatedly referring to him as "Saint" is premature on your part. Nomination is not beatification. Very telling, my good Bammer. You don't have other "premature" issues, do you? ;-)

A bazillion dollars and the SI swimsuit concubines, those I can totally understand.

But a retired, accident-prone, oxygen-guzzling glorified glider?

uhhh, I think it's safe to say that the rest of us are OK if you decline to answer that question, JK.

Can't pro athletes get by on less than 20 mil a year? Can't Justin Bieber get by on less than 50 mil, or Oprah or on and on? You get paid for performance and what the market dictates.

I'm guessing free college education, free food and travel is "paid". Ask all those parents who have to pay for their kids to go to college or borrow the money with interest.

Gonna get down in the gutter because we're about to win how many in a row against all that is Unholy, called The University of Tennessee?

He's just mad that Tensee and their fans, i.e., him, had to make a deal with the Devil to win one NC, while Alabama never made any deal with The Devil and have won 3 since the last time that Tennesse was relevant.

I sense the dark side in you, Bammer.

No, my dear Bammer, that kind of twisted thinking could only be born "west of Georgia."
