Buddy-system Oilers just don't get it

08:20 AM ET 04.16 | The Oilers certainly have a worthy history, and it seems the club appreciates celebrating it among its front office execs. The man behind the firing and the man who introduced the new (er, old?) face of the Oilers' management team on Monday was former GM Kevin Lowe. ... [former head coach Craig MacTavish] is yet another link to a past whose light continues to shine white hot on the present. Until he produces a winner or at least a team that looks like a team, he will be just another buddy getting a promotion, especially given the number of quality hockey minds toiling in other organizations, like Paul Fenton, Tom Kurvers, Claude Loiselle, Jim Nill et al., who have more impressive credentials.

Bum-Buddy-system Oilers just don't get it

Fixed.

The only thing of note I remember him doing for the Oilers behind the bench was tearing Harvey the Hound's tongue out...

Harvey the Hound?

Was the Flames mascot but I think he's assistant GM now.

After seeing the press conference yesterday, W2 I truly do feel for you. It was cringe-worthy watching Kevin Lowe trying to bark back at a writer who pointed out that he has destroyed this team for 7 years and doesn't deserve to be there.

As I've mentioned before, all they've done is dump the only outsider in the group (Tambellini) but the incestuous group that runs things over there just got stronger as Intrepid Uncle Kevin brought in long lost first cousins and their first cousin girlfriends to solidify their grip on power. This is truly bizarre, backwoods, hillbilly country over there. Not even Harold Ballard could come up with a more bizarre scenario.

If that's the case, Marty B will be hired as goalie coach upon his retirement...

I have a lot of respect for Craig McTavish. He tried his best to make Chicken Kiev with the chicken **** Kevin Lowe gave him to work with and did a pretty good job of it. I'm willing to give him a pass for now.

What I do find disturbing is him giving Kruger a pass and, when pressed endorsing him as THE coach the Oilers need right now as if Kruger bears no blame for the mess this season turned out to be. That's scary! They need an NHL coach, not a motivational speaker.

I would've pulled the somabeach over the glass and have the whole team take turns sitting on him for the rest of the game.

I really needed the laugh today, merci.

If Bostonians don't find something to laugh about today, they'll cry. Can't speak for anyone else but I hurt for all the innocent folk and their families whose only crime was to be at this grand event in the wrong place at the wrong time. Small consolation for the victims but, it could've been a whole lot worse if the other devices would've gone off.

I agree completely regarding Mac T. I think he is the smartest man in the Oilers management group. I think he will be an excellent GM for a long time. Kuhvin got this decision right, and that will keep him around for a long time also(sorry W2). If Kruger is not the guy , i do not think Mac T would hesitate to blow him out the door.

If so , they darn well should have patented it before others could copy it ;-)
