Kelly: Alabama didn't expose Te'o

03:27 PM ET 04.16 | Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly doesn't believe Manti Te'o's performance against Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game is indicative of his chances to be a good NFL player. Kelly was asked on NFL Network if the linebacker was exposed in that loss, and said "No." The coach believes that Te'o's college career outweighs what happened in the loss to Alabama. The Notre Dame defense provided little resistance against the Crimson Tide. Alabama steamrolled to 35 straight points of the game and put up 265 yards on the ground. Te'o did tally 10 tackles in the game, but part of that was the wealth of opportunities.

Chip ?

T'eo might stand a chance now that running backs won't be able to lower their head. That is until they learn how to stiff-arm.

Te'o did tally 10 tackles in the game

You'd better tackle someone if they run straight at you.

Don't even know what to make out of it all. True that Teo's body of work shows that he is capable, but Bama was the biggest test he has ever had, and he failed miserably.

I don't know if one game, a month after the real season ended, is really indicative of his chances for success at the next level. Not saying that the Irish would have beaten Bama, but I think that the long time off hurt them alot more than it hurt Bama...the whole aura of invincibility and players playing above their head was gone. It was a big crash back to reality, and I don't think that Teo really did any worse than the rest of his team.

Perhaps he just needs a season or 2 on the bench of a pro squad to develop himself at the nfl level? I won't pretend to have the answer...but I think I would definitely approach with caution.
