06:28 PM ET 04.16 | With five quarterbacks on the roster, Chip Kelly and Eagles brass needed to make a decision on where they headed with the QB depth chart, and they began by releasing veteran quarterback Trent Edwards Monday night. Edwards was the most impressive Eagles quarterback in training camp and the preseason last year, which earned him a spot on the Eagles roster, after being out of the NFL in 2011. However, due to the the progression of Nick Foles, Edwards only took two snaps in the 2012 campaign. Edwards, while he didn't get much of a shot in his only season in Philadelphia, has starting experience in the NFL and showed in the preseason last year that he can be a valuable backup for an NFL team. Edwards will likely be signed quickly as either a backup, or third-string quarterback.
