Oilers open to big trade, eyeing Weber?

08:14 AM ET 04.17 | Steve Tambelllini is out and Craig MacTavish is in, which may mean significant change to the roster is in store, too. [MacTavish] said Monday he's up for a bold move (trade), which to me would mean dealing of one of their kids: Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, Justin Schultz or Nail Yakupov but not, say, Sam Gagner, even if Gagner is almost a point-a-game player this season. But I would say Hall, RNH and Schultz are untouchable. The other two wingers Eberle and Yakupov are close to it unless one of the NHL's top two or three defencemen Shea Weber is in the picture. ... [Weber] can't be traded until late in July because NHL teams have to wait a full calendar year after Nashville matched Philadelphia's offer sheet.

forgetting about the rest of the (sadly comical) nature of this piece, (for I know not what sort of paper the EJ is)
This kind of minutae (waiting a year? why?) is the kind of stuff that drives me mad

It's like gossip column journalism.

Spiny im not sure what you just said but...you cant trade a player for a year after matching an offer sheet. It surprised me to check capgeek and see Weber doesnt have a NTC or NMC.

Whatever the case, MacT has his work cut out. I watched the Oilers get pushed around again like rag dolls yesterday. Not one veteran on that team has any balls or a spine, from their captain on down. Not one to stand up and say 'enough's enough.' They're all so meek and mild, just like Tumble-llini. One could fall asleep just listening to that guy talk. Put them all in one bag and, if you can get a 7th round pick for them, count yourself lucky

I know Spiny, everybody needs their Weber well before the end of July.

I think Eberle's may have made himself expendable by becoming a one dimensional player. You know exactly what he's going to do every time he's on the ice which makes it easy to counter. The one player they have to move is Alice Hurtsky. As soon as he gets healthy, get rid of him before he trips over his own shadow and dislocates a shoulder again.

That's all the Preds need now after a pitiful finish this season....if Weber goes north, the Preds are sinking further south....foundation of a competitive(??) team would be over a sink hole that would erode faster than global warming....just saying....

that whole "wait a year'.
Why is just the end of the season not sufficient?
